"Helicopter Hell"

Films: Blue Thunder (1983)

Alias: The Special

Type: Man-Made

Location: Desert/Civilized area

Height/Weight: Twice that of an average helicopter.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: Just when you thought that police brutality had gone too far, it has now taken to the skies. But even then, the fuzz wasn’t expecting their newest toy to end up such an airborne metal monster...

History: From the get-go, the prototype super-helicopter "Blue Thunder" was meant to be the ultimate in purging crime from the streets. But alas, there are those who intend on misusing the power of this new weapon, especially if it means political gain. Pretty soon, Blue Thunder is caught in a tug-of-war between military conspirators and those trying to keep it out of the wrong hands.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: Our protagonist manages to use Blue Thunder to deal with the major conspirators. However, he then has the helicopter destroyed by a freight train so that its secrets never see the light of day again.

Powers/Abilities: Infrared scanners, enough firepower to down tanks, and turbo boosters for extra maneuverability.

Weakness: Heavy artillery.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-Ultimately, the fright this thing can cause depends on who has the keys. But man, in the words of one of the characters, an army of these things could indeed bring the country to its knees. Because how else can you describe Blue Thunder without calling it an airborne tank?

Trivia: -A year later, an 11-episode TV series of the same name ran for a while. It was mostly made up of stock footage from the film.

-The actual Blue Thunder is just a modified Aerospatiale Gazelle helicopter. Two of them were made, but now, very little of them remains.
